| Hey friends, fam, etc.
I have way too much school work that I have to finish this semester. I'll be taking a break from xanga, but I will be checking emails, or you can always call. I'll be back online approximately Dec. 14. See you soon!

| Did everyone have a nice Thanksgiving?
I sure hope you're not at the malls today.
Well, Claudia is about to round up her third week in the hospital. She
finally starting to feel better since they put the G-tube in to feed
her. She'll come home with it, whenever she does come home.
It's a long story, but a few weeks ago I took her to her regular
hospital (Baptist South) with shortness of breath and a 102° fever -
dangerous for a chemo patient. They discovered another
pericardial
effusion (fluid around her heart) and sent her to another hospital (St.
Vincents) to have her surgery. When the surgeon came out to the
waiting room he told me that it turned out to be another tumor instead
of the effusion, and that it looked pretty bad, probably 'end
stage'.
When her parents got there I told them there was another tumor but left
out the severity. She found out the next day about the 'new
tumor'.
Well, she spent too many days in the ICU. She could have left
sooner,
but they kept losing her transfer orders to go to Baptist
Downtown.
Once she was finally at her next hospital (because her oncologist works
out of that hospital as well as South) she finally saw Dr. D. her
oncologist. I could tell he was coming with bad news because he's
usually a pretty energetic chipper guy. He wouldn't say anything
until the nurse and the tech left and he shut the door behind
them. He told her that since the cancer came back so aggressively
only three weeks after her last chemo, that she would need to start
chemo again that afternoon, they would re-stage her, and get the
process started for a bone marrow transplant. Really sucky
news. Well, a few minutes after Dr. D left, I followed him out to
ask some questions I didn't want Claudia to hear. He was on the
phone, but when he saw me he was all of a sudden his usual animated
self. He waved me over and told me to sit down at the desk with
him, and since he was on hold, he spread out Claudia's paperwork in
front of me. He said, "We just got some potentially really good
news!" And he pointed to her pathology reports which said
"fibrous scar tissue". So... no tumor?? He said, "I know
what you're thinking. You're thinking, 'if there's no tumor, then
what did Dr. Pirris see?'" As a matter of fact, that is
just what I was thinking. Dr. D said, "I don't know what he saw,
I'm calling him now to find out." Dr. Pirris was in surgery, so
Dr. D didn't get to talk to him, but he was pretty irritated that the
surgeon had freaked everybody out like he did. I told Dr. D that
he'd told me that it looked really bad and hadn't given me much hope
that she'd make it. That irritated Dr. D too. So that was
good news.
But the bad news is that the cancer still isn't gone. PET scans
showed that there is activity again in the old tumor, so she'll
probably still have to do some more chemo before radiation can be
done. She still may be looking at a bone marrow transplant, but
we won't know that for a while.
She stopped eating after a few days, but all of her cultures and
bloodwork were coming back ok, so they just couldn't figure out what
was wrong with her. They finally settled on that she had more
pneumonia, but I don't think they were able to narrow down what
kind. They just put her on every antibiotic/antifungal/antiviral
that Dr. D said he'd heard of. Because she couldn't eat, she
wasn't really getting better til they started feeding her through her
G-tube. Hopefully, she'll come home early this coming week.
So, for those of you who may have been sending her emails, that's where she's been.

| No one is on Xanga anymore. Including myself. There just
doesn't seem to be too much to say, and no time to sit and say it
anyway.
Quick update. School is kicking my ass. I mean, I'm doing fine, but it keeps me so stinkin' busy.
Claudia will hopefully be writing those on her email list soon.
She's in the hospital again after another surgery and some traumatic
news that turned out to be not-so-traumatic as it first seemed, but
still pretty serious. She should be home later today.
That's really all thats going on these days. Cancer and school.
**EDIT Not coming home today after all. More invasive procedures scheduled for tomorrow. Crap.
